New York City and Stuffs
To those of us who have visited the Big Apple, it will at times seem foreign to some. With towering skyscrapers and a wide array of cultures and cuisine, it is a good spot for those who like variety. New York City is one immersed deeply in history, and has influenced the lives of many people, especially those originating from foreign soil. Some of the buildings in the city are very old, some dating back to George Washington's time.

while some are modern, creating a vast expanse of time in which to view the city, from its cobblestone roots to its steel foundations of today. The city is also home to many of the rich and famous, occupying apartments that can be thousands of dollars a month in rent, and whose occupants may be spotted from time to time wandering the sidewalks or strolling in Central Park.
One of the great things about New York is the food. For people on a tighter budget, a jumbo hotdog from one of New York's hotdog stands serves as a quite satisfying and delicious meal for the price. A little bit pricier, but just as delicious, there are delis all over the place, serving fresh sandwiches just how you like them. Even more expensive, but not as worth it, ridiculously priced food and beverage may be purchased from almost any museum. I haven't had much from the fancy restaurants, so I can't say much, but the Italian restaurant I did visit was good, and not altogether too pricey. (Where else but in Little Italy?)
Having been to New York once before, and gone into the World Trade Centers, it was a bit of a shock to see up close the extent of the destruction, most of which is still under construction, and my slight disappointment to learn that the plans to make the new tower the tallest building in the world had been scrapped.
Thinking of New York City, many of us conjure images in our heads of gangs and graffiti, tough-talking Brooklyn-ers, and the crime, murders, gunfights, drugs, etc. To fit in with that image, two trainee police officers actually were killed the night I arrived, but most of the places with this sort of thing aren't the places common tourists go, although as an exception, graffiti can be seen in almost every place in the city. All of the citizens I met were kind and willing to help the stranded tourist, or just to have a chat about the weather (coming up in part 3!) while waiting in line.
